Become a host family

Being a foster family, what is it exactly?

It is in fact an exchange of services. Every year, Ann-Lou acquires new females (or males) for her breeding program. As I absolutely want my dogs to live in a family environment, I always place a few. This is where the foster family comes in. And that way, Ann-Lou will never be considered a kennel.

If paying $2,000 or more for a dog is financially impossible for you, then fostering might be a good option.

Here's some informations;

The host family must:

  • Live at less than 1.5 hours away from the Ann-Lou kennel and be ready to bring the female dog to the kennel a few times a year.

  • Accept that the female dog spends some time in breeding during her heat (7 to 21 days) and during birth and breastfeeding, (+ or - 8 weeks) for a maximum of 4 litters. The female will not have any litters before 2 years.

  • Agree to bring the female dog at least 1 week per 2-3 months so that she recognizes me and recognizes the environment. During this period, the female dog will receive a complete grooming, free of charge! (This includes; bathing, cutting with scissors, cleaning and depilating the ears, cleaning teeth, clipping claws and brushing.) She will be able to play and run with my family and the other dogs on the farm to be well socialized.

  • Give her a raw diet.

  • Provide their personal information such as: full name, address, email address, telephone number and a photocopy of their driver's license. (If the dog is adopted by a couple or more than one adult, all persons must give their information.)

  • Be 100% non-smoker and non-vaper.

  • Agree to communicate at least once a month with the breeder to give news of the animal.

  • Take the female dog to the kennel when you go on vacation or need to keep her. (No charge.)

  • Sign a contract.

  • Notify the breeder when the female dog begins to bleed (heat.)

Expenses:

  • An amount of $800 is required to become a foster family for a breeding female.

  • As we feed all of our dogs a high quality, holistic, raw food (raw meat) this is how you should also feed the little female dog. (It is strictly forbidden to change feed!) To help you achieve this, Ann-Lou will give you access to breeders prices and quantities. (It will even cost you less than kibble food.)

  • Also, you will have to agree to give the animal the annual basic vaccines as well as to provide it; toys, cushions, treats, etc.

Once the female is retired, I will have her sterilized at my expense and then return her to the family with all her papers, at no additional cost (the female will then be between 3 and 5 years old.)

Breeding females are between 3 months and 3 years old when placed.

Note that Ann-Lou reserves the right to take back the female dog if the family takes care of her badly or mistreats her or if the family wishes to move too far from the breeding.
